Puhoi Bohemian Band

"Music was, and is still is, a very important part of the Bohemian culture and the hub of their social gatherings. The main instruments played were the dudelsack and violin, which came out with the settlers on the ships, and the button accordion, . . . picked up here in New Zealand. Music has been passed down the generations, mostly by ear, although a manuscript book hand written by Charlie Becher had been kept. A few dances have survived, maybe due to the fact they were fun. They are still danced now at our gatherings.

Owen Hugh

Someone has to write the songs that people like.

Owen's taken this role to heart; he's been writing and performing his music for over 20 years. His music and lyrics are thoughtful, sensitive, funny, powerful, and his voice is something truly special. You could listen to Owen (his voice is often likened to James Taylor) for hours and not tire.

Eight independently produced, original CDs and a lifetime of live performance certainly qualify Owen for his role as entertainer and the title of singer-songwriter.

 Andy Hamilton

The Mad Hatterz Band have been causing some excitement recently with their hard to pin down style, somewhere between folk, rock, country and even a little jazz. The band includes the virtuosic violin playing of Murray van Hoorn  along with Phil Hayhoe on lead guitar who’s tasteful guitar licks take the sound into uncharted musical waters. Driven by the inventive rhythm section of Menno Besseling on percussion and Bo van der Bemd on double bass. The band are formed around the song writing and vocals of Andy Hamilton. He has released two albums, the most recent being the 2006 solo album called “In the Palm of Your Hand.” Surrounded by the Mad Hatterz his love songs and insightful lyrics have been imbued with a beautiful tapestry of sonic wizardry and they know how to rock as well just when you’ve been lulled into a sense of relaxed bliss.
